Our Story

Why We Started

In 2021, the world lost an icon. Agnes Tirop was a world-record-breaking Olympian, but to us, she was a friend, a sister, and a teammate. Her life was tragically stolen by gender-based violence (GBV). In the wake of our grief, her family and fellow athletes refused to stay silent. We founded Tirop’s Angels to ensure that no other woman has to suffer in the shadows, and to turn a profound tragedy into a movement for systemic change.

Our Vision

We envision a safe, equitable world where female athletes and young women can pursue their potential without the threat of violence or exploitation. Through our dedicated crisis and counseling center in Iten, community education workshops, and financial empowerment programs, we are reclaiming safe spaces for women—giving them the tools, rights, and support to stand strong, independent, and secure.

The organization’s mission is to change society from the inside by educating young girls and boys about GBV, challenging harmful cultural norms, and empowering women, girls, and boys with the right information and support.
